Water Gap Weekend Two or Three nights Scamp 'n' Rascal Cycling Adventures
Maximum 20 people.
Weekends are made for cycling. So are the roads in the area around the Delaware Water Gap. So much so that we couldn't fit them all into a single two day event - so we stretched the weekend, just for you. Come ride with us for two, three of four days. Whatever works for you!
Take two days off from work and come early on Thursday. We'd love to have you join us as we head out on our cue sheet ride.
If Thursday morning is pushing it, then come Thursday evening. You'll find us in the bar, relaxed, happy and looking forward to our Friday morning ride.
If weekdays are just not possible, you'll still find us ready to play. Catch up with us Friday evening. There are still miles and miles of glorious road to cover on Saturday and Sunday, and a great night of hot Jazz, to boot!
Our home for this festive weekend is the renowned Deer Head Inn. This gorgeous Victorian hotel, with its Mansard roof and ancient wisteria vines was built between 1853 and 1865, during the height of the Civil War. Once called the Central House, the hotel was renamed the Deer Head Inn in the 30's. The 1950's brought Jazz to these hills and the already hip Deer Head has been a Mecca for first rate Jazz artists ever since.
Day One - Thursday Welcome to the Deer Head Inn! Surrounded by the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and adjacent to the Appalachian Trail, the Deer Head has been home to great food, great music and a cozy ambiance for more than a century. Get here early and join us on our cue sheet ride through Cherry Valley, with a stop at the Sorrenti Winery. Did you know it's haunted? Really! You're on your own for dinner, but look for us in the bar once the sun goes down.
Rolling to hilly terrain Optional Cue Sheet Ride - Approximately 30 miles
Day Two - Friday Week days are the best for quiet roads. This area has long been known as a prime tourist destination and today you'll find out why. We're heading upstream, following gorgeous winding roads past waterfalls and vistas that will steal your breath and leave your heart pounding...or maybe that was just the climb? Doesn't matter. Multiple route distances will make this day comfortable for everyone.
Rolling to hilly terrain with some climbs Breakfast, Dinner Multiple routes from approximately 25 to 50 miles
Day Three - Saturday What goes up, must go down. Downstream, that is. Our two route options today both cruise down the PA side of the Delaware, crossing the river at Belvidere, NJ. From there you can either come back along the ridge line of the Jersey side, or continue down stream to a rest stop in Phillipsburg, NJ...then come back up along the ridge line of the Jersey side. We didn't want you to miss any of the views! And just for you hill-nuts out there, we've included an optional opportunity to climb one of Bicycling Magazine's 100 toughest hills in America - Fiddler's Elbow.
Rolling to hilly terrain with some climbs; optional steep climbing Breakfast, Dinner Two routes - 35 miles and 60 miles
Day Four - Sunday Everyone we introduce to Old Mine Road declares it cycling perfection; one of the best roads they've ever ridden. Hopefully you'll feel the same way. If you're short for time, head up Old Mine Road to the historical village of Millbrook, then turn around for the 12 mile flight back downstream. Or if you want a few more miles before you head home, you can enjoy the longer climb up to Blairstown and try to break the sound barrier descending into Millbrook before that sweet final sail back to the Inn. Then for those of you who just can't climb enough, we can offer you another one of Bicycling Magazine's 100 toughest climbs in America - the back side of the road to Blairstown (optional, of course). Race you to the top!!
